You can’t make a cat do anything! I would give it time and let the cat lose any fear he/she has of it. Also, make sure it is a good distance from the food bowl. Try sitting near the fountain, petting your cat, and when your cat can see you do it, maybe try catching some of the fountain water in a cup and drinking it yourself. The key is to a) Not get into a power struggle with the cat over getting the cat to use the fountain, b) Show the cat that this strange contraption is safe, and c) give the cat time to get over his or her fears enough to become curious about the water fountain. My partner’s cat started out scared and now loves the fountain so much that she plays in it, occasionally creating splashes with her paws.
