 If you have nothing else at the moment, it’s okay to feed cats dog food short term. However, dog food is designed for dogs, so it doesn’t have all the nutrients your cat needs. Keep in mind that dogs are omnivores, who eat plants and animals, while cats are carnivores, who only eat meat. This means that cats need more protein, vitamins and fatty acids than dog food provides. Also, many times, cats aren’t interested in eating dog food. Cats are picky and have less taste buds than dogs, so dog food might taste bland to them. Cat food is supposed to have a stronger taste (and smell, if you’ve ever opened a can of the stuff) that cats enjoy. If the cat has no other food and is hungry, they will probably eat it, but try to get them their own food as soon as you’re able!
